Capitola Parks and Recreation:  Fall Catalog offerings

Learn the art of sewing by experimenting with materials and basic sewing machine skills while creating fun holiday decorations.  This class is designed to give students an introduction to sewing, machine safety, basic stitching, and fabric arts.  Students will create 7-9 fun fabric holiday projects that challenge their artistic abilities for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday decor.  Your student is expected to use machines and sharp tools in a safe way and be able to follow directions.

Each student will have the opportunity of creating a variety of projects throughout the multi day/week  long course.  Projects are designed to take the student through the entirety of the making and sewing process.

Examples of the projects we will be creating:

Halloween Gnomes, Halloween Plushies, Trick-or-Treat Bags, Pumpkin Pot Holder, Fabric Turkey, Fabric Owl, Fabric Braided Wreath, Fabric Santa, Fabric Snowman

Classes will be held at New Brighton Middle School, Thursday afternoons from 3:30-5:30, 10/12-12/21

STITCH AND FIX:  Adult ages 18+

Have a bag of clothes you love but they need minor repairs or alterations?  Want to learn basics or sewing or expand your skills so you can fix these on your own in the future?  This workshop is for you!

This workshop will educate you on the basics of sewing machine safety and skills while providing you with the ability to not only repair or alter your own items in the future but perhaps also create something from scratch.  Each participant will have the opportunity to bring in items in need of repair or alternation and leave with an item they can use again!

Notes to Students:  If you own your own sewing machine, you are encouraged to bring it, otherwise machines will be provided for use.

This is a one-day workshop held on 9/16 at Capitola Community Center from 9am-1pm

Ocean Grove School

I am excited to be an approved vendor for Ocean Grove School offering Sewing Lessons for students.  The suggested age of student is 8+ pending their concentration levels.   Your student is expected to use machines and sharp tools in a safe way and be able to follow directions.

Sewing lessons will educate each student on basic sewing machine skills while experimenting with materials and making projects that are individually suited to student’s interest.  Students are encouraged to sign up for multiple sessions in order to have time to complete a multi-step project:  reading sewing patterns, cutting patterns & fabrics, sewing all aspects of project and adding finishing details.

Sewing machines can be provided for use, if you own your own sewing machine, students are encouraged to use to gain familiarity on machine that will be more accessible to them.
